Many years ago, I read a book written by Allan Williams titled: “THE MAN WHO GAVE THE BEATLES AWAY”.
It was Williams own story about being the manager of the Beatles during their formative years in Liverpool and Hamburg, and how he had decided not to keep managing them and surrendered their management [ultimately to Brian Epstein], just before the Beatles became big.
In December 1961, Williams met with Epstein and warned him:
“Brian, don’t touch them with a f***ing bargepole”.
Oops.
There’s also the story of Ronald Wayne, who after only 12 days of working with Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, had his name taken off the contract and sold his 10% share of Apple back to the two co-founders for $800.
Oops.
In 2024, 10% of Apple is worth approximately $280 Billion.
By comparison, Ronald Wayne’s. net worth in 2024 is $400K.
Ronald Wayne has stated in the decades that followed, he does not regret selling his share of the company, as he made the “best decision based on the information available at the time”.
I guess he did look at the information, and he made his decision on that information.
As did Williams…
But what if you yourself were to make a dumb decision on “feelings” rather than on “facts”?
Imagine for a moment…
Imagine going home after a long day at the practice, and sitting down for dinner and being asked this question by your spouse:
“How was your day dear?”
And you then tell them that some random dentist rang your practice and wanted to speak to you, but you chose not to take the call, or you chose not to call that dentist back, because you FELT you know what that dentist wanted to talk to you about…
But in reality, you actually have no clue what the call was about.
No clue at all….
But close your eyes for a minute…
Now close your eyes…
And imagine for a minute, that you could grow your dental practice turnover by $300K per year?
Without adding extra staff.
Without working extra days or extra hours, and
Without spending any extra money on marketing…
What if that improvement was permanent, and that extra $300K was there every year for the next ten years?
Or the next twenty years?
Without adding extra staff.
Without working extra days or extra hours, and
Without spending any extra money on marketing…
Is it possible?
Is it possible?
And is it possible for you?
What would an extra $6M in your bank account in 20 years’ time mean to you?
What would that extra $6M mean to your family?
Some dentists say that they don’t need any extra money…
But show me one dentist who wouldn’t mind paying off their mortgage earlier?
And could stop being held to ransom by the big greedy banks…
And who wouldn’t mind sending their children to better schools?
So those children could learn more, in a better environment…
Who wouldn’t mind taking a few more holidays?
When they felt like it?
Rather than feeling like they always NEED a holiday….
Because…
When that dentist phones you, and you decide that YOU THINK YOU KNOW what that dentist wants to talk to you about, then picture yourself going home to your spouse and telling them that you knocked back the opportunity of being able to tell your bank manager where to go shove his mortgage.
Don’t forget that you knocked back the opportunity of sending your children to a better school…
Because you somehow magically know what this dentist phoning your office was going to tell you…
When you really have no clue at all…
Wouldn’t you want to break out of your struggle…
Wouldn’t you want to break out of your struggle and break out of your turmoil?
And find a better way?
Because no matter what you’re doing, there’s always someone who’s not as good as you, and who’s not as smart as you, who’s doing better than you….
And you have no idea who they are, and what they are doing that you could be doing easily, because you think you know everything…
When you really don’t know much at all.
That dentist who rang and asked to speak to you is a BDS just like you…
Who grew a one man practice from $120K per year to $3.4M per year in just over twenty years…
And who last year as a practice coach helped a one dentist practice in Queensland add $500K to its collections in twelve months.
And who this year also helped a practice in suburban Perth grow its monthly collections by $80K in five months…
Both without adding extra staff, and
Without working extra days or hours, and
Without spending any extra money on marketing…
The reality is…
In life, the reality is that fifty percent of marriages end in divorce.
And the number one cause of divorce is money worries.
Spouses arguing over money.
The more you argue about money, the more chance you’ll be fighting with lawyers about dividing up what little money you actually have…
Do you think that having an extra $300K per year and no mortgage might reduce your money worries?
And do you think having less money worries might help to reduce your chance of divorce?
“It won’t happen to me…”
A lot of married people think that divorce will never happen to them.
Sadly, when it does happen, it usually hits them from the blind side…
Do you want to take that risk anyway?
After all, it’s only a 50% chance…
Would you take that chance?
Would you risk it?
Would you take that chance?
Let me put ten pistols out on the table.
Five of those pistols are loaded.
With live bullets
And five are not loaded.
Your best friend sits in front of you.
Would you pick up a random pistol, one of those ten pistols, and fire it point blank at your friend, with a fifty percent chance that you’ll kill them, but also a fifty percent chance that they won’t be affected?
Would you take that risk?
Would you take that fifty percent chance that your friend will be dead and you will be in gaol, based upon the risk that you’re willing to take?
What’s your answer?
Would you risk it?
Most people would not…
But the odds are the same for divorce.
Would you take the risk of losing half your assets in divorce?
And the risk of losing your family?
Because you took the odds.
Because you took that risk?
The risk of not trying…
The risk of not knowing…
The risk of thinking you knew…
When you really had no clue whatsoever…
Is that what your family deserves?
Is that what you believe your family is truly worth?
Are you willing to take that risk on a 50:50?
Are you OK with doing nothing and living with those odds?
Or would you do what you can to improve those lousy odds to be more in your favour?
