Preparation Is The Key

If you want to be a success in life, you need to prepare.

Preparation and anticipation are far more important than reaction, and lack of preparation.

Success in life is all about preparation.

Preparation is what matters most.

What’s true in sport is true in life.

In sport, a team, or an individual player both need to prepare for their next contest.

You just can’t turn up on game day and expect things to happen naturally without preparation, and without practice and without planning.

It’s that simple.

The great teams and the great players in individual sport prepare for their next battle.

They anticipate what will happen.

They prepare for all eventualities that they can imagine happening, and are ready, just in case those things do happen.

And because they have prepared, and because they have practiced and rehearsed and drilled their responses, they know exactly how to respond in real time during the game when these things happen.

The great sports stars, and the great sporting teams, are ready.

They’ve done the work, and they know how to steer themselves towards the result they seek.

And the great teams, and the great players stick to the processes they know will deliver the desired outcomes.

But in business and in life things are different.

In business, and in life and relationships, people turn up unprepared, and simply try to “wing it”.

Which produces catastrophic results, most of the times.

But that’s what people do…

In their businesses, and in their relationships… that’s what most people do…

They turn up and HOPE that things will work out.

And most of the time, when preparation is poor, things don’t work out.

For example, at your work, when the phone rings, do your co-workers know exactly what is THE BEST THING TO SAY so that the caller ends up becoming a customer, or do they simply just HOPE they know what they maybe are going to have to say?

As a dentist…

What happens when a new patient comes into your dental practice and wants a certain treatment?

Do you just HOPE that they’re going to like what you tell them, and go ahead and schedule treatment?

Or do you know exactly what to say and ask, and do you know when to say and ask those key points that the customer will always have to know?

You see, we do need to know what to tell these patients, and we also need to know when is the best time to talk with these patients.

Dentistry is a hard gig.

Nobody really wants to be there as a patient…

Ever.

They’d always rather be somewhere else.

As dentists, to be successful, we need to make all patients like us.

And to do that we’ve got to know the words.

We’ve got to practice and rehearse these words… so much so that the words just roll off our tongues, and we look and sound natural.

You don’t want to look awkward, and you definitely don’t want to look like a salesman [heaven forbid!!!].

You also don’t want to look like you don’t know what you’re doing.

On the sporting field, you don’t want to look like you don’t know what you’re doing…

A professional team that is well prepared will always finish ahead of an opponent who has done less preparation…

On game day, if you don’t know what you’re doing, you’re going to fall over and lose big time.

So, here’s my message for you today.

Remember, be professional, plan, practice and be prepared for what you believe is going to happen.

When things stop going towards the plan you had, know what to do to lead the way back into contention.

You are always able to be in control.

If you aren’t in control you must channel the energy that you need to ensure that you can create success in your life, in your relationships, and in your business.

The most important ingredients you need to achieve success is to have a positive mindset, and to have a supportive network of trusted advisors and coaches who are invested in your success.

And to know what it is that you now need to do to achieve true greatness.

And then you need to be totally fixated on the outcome of success.

So much so, that you will do whatever is needed to be successful…

So, just do it.

Now.
